PURPOSE:To prevent a printing paper from being contaminated when moving a carrier without printing where a monochroic ink ribbon is used, by displacing the ink ribbon from the position of an opening part by operating a cassette- turning mechanism when moving the carrier under control without operating a printing mechanism. CONSTITUTION:During a printing, an opening part 10 of a ribbon guide 9 is located at an inked part of an ink ribbon 6a. When there is a blank space corresponding to at least a predetermined number of characters or when returning a carriage 4, a ribbon cassette 6 is turned downward to displace the ribbon 6a from the position of the opening part 10, and the carrier 4 is moved under control under this condition. Accordingly, during the movement of the carrier 4, the inked part of the ink ribbon 6a will not make contact with a printing paper through the opening part 10, so that the paper will not be contaminated by the ink ribbon 6a. |
