PURPOSE:To inform the presence position of a remote control unit by operating a transmitting circuit on a side to be controlled remotely and sending out a retrieval signal, and receiving this signal by a receiving circuit on a remote control side. CONSTITUTION:The key, etc., of a remote control signal transmitter 4 are operated and then a control signal is generated by a remote control signal transmitting circuit 5 and sent out through a light emitting element 5a. This signal is received by the remote control signal receiving circuit 3 of a television broadcast receiver 1 through a light receiving element 3a, and processed by a signal decision circuit 2 and outputted as a control signal 6. When the presence position of a transmitter 4 is unclear, a retrieval operation part provided to the image receiver 1 is operated to input a retrieval request command 8 to the circuit 2 and a retrieval signal sending circuit 7 sends out a retrieval request signal from the light emitting element 7a withe the operation command from the circuit 2. This signal when received by the retrieval signal receiving circuit 9 of the transmitter 4 is amplified 9b, decoded by a signal processing circuit 9c, and outputted to an indicating means 10, thereby indicating the presence position.
