The invention relates to a subframe of the trestle type, having articulated elements acting as support for a table top and/or a drawing board, with automatic height adjustment. The structure of the subframe associates, on grooved uprights 2, 2' with vertical sliding ability, linked by crosspieces 3, 3', 4 and resting on feet 1 for positioning on the ground, assemblies of articulated arms 1',5, 6, the upper ones 5 of which receive the variable-slope top or board. According to the invention, the adjustment in height of the assembly is carried out by means of one hand and from one single side by means of a crank 14, by virtue of an assembly consisting of a threaded rod 8' on which a cable 11 is wound and unwound on a pulley 8 between two of the crosspieces 3, 4 of the uprights 2, 2' with vertical sliding ability. <IMAGE>
