PURPOSE:To facilitate operation by fitting a light emitting element to a key, deciding whether the key is effective or not by a program which is used by a host device, and allowing the key to illuminate or blink according to an answer-back signal. CONSTITUTION:A keyboard device 4 is connected to the host device 1 by signal lines 2-3. This keyboard device 4 consists of keys 5 with light emitting diodes 8 and a control circuit 11. Each key 5 is constituted by providing a key cap 6, a light emitting diode 8, and a key top 5 on a key switch 9. Consequently, when a key 5 is depressed, it is judged whether the key 5 is effective or not by the program which runs on the host device 1, and its judgement signal is supplied to a control circuit 11. When it is decided that the key 5 is effective, its light emitting diode 8 is illuminated and when not, the light emitting diode 8 is blinked, thereby enabling an operator to judge whether the correct key 5 is pressed or not.
