It is known that perpetrators of car break-ins who specialise in valuable car radios preselect vehicles before breaking into them by looking into the vehicles in order to ascertain whether valuable appliances have been installed in them. Antitheft screens which have the appearance of cheap products and can be placed without a large amount of assembly work over original stereo radio recorders, speakers and other car HiFi appliances will deny would-be perpetrators of break-ins the opportunity of making such a selection. The would-be perpetrator would have to conclude that the installed appliance is a cheap model of no interest to him, and he would therefore not break into the vehicle. Even if he realises that he is looking at a screen, he will be unable to say what kind of appliance is situated behind it and will therefore probably refrain from breaking into the vehicle in this case, too, preferring to go and look for a more likely prospect.
