PURPOSE:To recover chromium-contg. ore with an inexpensive and simple means by subjecting chromium laterite to a classification treatment, dispersing the same into water, adding a ferrous salt and alkali thereto in a specific pH range and maturing the laterite, then subjecting the same to a magnetic sepn. and gravity sepn. CONSTITUTION:The chromium laterite is classified by about 38mum sieve and the particles below said grain size are cut, then the particles are dispersed into the water. The ferrous salt such as FeSO4 and the alkali such as NaOH are then added and mixed to and with the dispersion to adjust the pH thereof to 8-11. The iron-contg. ore in the chromium laterite is made into iron ferrite by maturation. The iron ferrite is subjected to the magnetic sepn. Gangue ore is separated from the remaining non-magnetized material by using an oscillation table, etc., and the chromium-contg. ore is recovered. The chromium-contg. ore of a high grade is recovered at a good yield by the above-mentioned method.
