A bung hole locating device having a support which travels on the barrel surface around a concentric circle whose centre is the centre of the bung hole, two contact switches being arranged on the underside of the said support at a mutual distance which is equal to the diameter of the bung hole, has two spacers, which preferably take the form of rollers and hold the support above the barrel surface at a distance from the latter, which arrangement ensures that the contact switches remain disengaged and also excludes the possibility of erroneous signals in the vicinity of the bung hole.
