The outer envelope of a filter used in mining is designed as a double casing, slot openings being provided in this outer casing which permit a natural air current through the double casing and ensure relatively short routes for the air. In this way, the housing of a safety filter can be kept cool to such an extent that, if smouldering fires occur, the dust present in the filter cannot ignite. <IMAGE>
