PURPOSE:To surely avoid the occurrence of transaction impossibility by storing the accumulated value of frequency in use in a recording medium and detecting the expiration of the life or the approach of the use limit of the recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 1 consisting of an IC card is inserted from a card insertion hole 21 of a cash automatic transaction device 20, and information recorded on the IC card is processed by a reader/writer 3 under the control of a control part 10 to perform cash transaction. An operating element 11 and a recording element 12 are incorporated in the recording medium 1, and the element 12 is constituted with an EEPROM and is divided into plural areas M1-M7. The accumulated number of times of transaction, the number of times of retry of contacting between contacts 2 and contacts 7, the accumulat ed number of times of write to the element 12, and the accumulated number of times of retry of write are stored in areas M3-M6 respectively. The value which is one smaller than the number of times of each of them corresponding to the expiration of the medium 1 is stored in the area M7 as a reference value. Thus, the expiration of the life or the approach of the use limit of the medium 1 is detected by the element 12. |
