PURPOSE:To obtain a pharmaceutical, by dispersing a physiologically active substance in a straight-chain polysaccharide having maltotriose as repeating units linked through alpha-1,6-bonds and blending a wax or a metal salt of a fatty acid therewith and having improved sustained release property and high safety. CONSTITUTION:A pharmaceutical obtained by dispersing a physiologically active substance in a straight-chain polysaccharide (tradename; Pullulan, hereinafter abbreviated to pullulan), expressed by the formula and having maltotriose as repeating units linked through alpha-1,6-bonds and blending a wax, e.g. hardened oil, or a metal salt of a fatty acid, e.g. magnesium stearate, or a mixture thereof with the resultant dispersion. The Pullulan is readily soluble in water and application to sustained release pharmaceuticals is considered since the dissolution rate thereof in water is low. The release rate thereof, however, is too high and the pullulan is not practical. The dissolution rate of the pullulan can be reduced by blending the above-mentioned wax or metal salt of fatty acid therewith (up to 4 weight ratio based on the pullulan) and controlled by adjusting the amount thereof added.
