PURPOSE:To enhance the braking force of a four wheel drive vehicle during parking, by providing such an arrangement that when the parking condition of the vehicle is detected, the front and rear wheel drive transmission systems are directly coupled. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 12 receives signals from a vehicle speed sensor 14 and a parking brake sensor 15, and therefore, detects the parking condition of the vehicle in accordance with these signals Ss, Sp. When the control unit 12 determines that the vehicle falls in the parking condition, it engages a clutch 45 to directly couple drive systems 8, 7 for front and rear wheels 1a, 1b, 4a, 4b. Accordingly, parking brake is exerted to all four wheels. With this arrangement, it is possible to aim at enhancing the braking performance.
