PURPOSE:To display a solid graphic in a short period by expressing approximately a luminance with the formula of the sum of the item related to a depth value and the item related to the normal line of a reflecting surface. CONSTITUTION:A luminance I is made approximate by the sum of an item Ir including a depth value (r) and an item IN including a normal line N of a reflecting surface. (where, K1, Kd and Ks are the quantity determined by the material of the reflecting surface, L is a light source direction unit vector, H is the unit vector of the intermediate direction of the light source and the sight line. C1-C4 are constants.) A picture element generating processor 30 sends a depth value (r) to a depth value buffer 74 concerning one picture element, sends unit vectors N and L to an inner product calculating part 41 and sends unit vectors N and H to an inner product calculating circuit 42. The output of the depth value (r) and above-mentioned inner product calculating circuits 41 and 42 enters respective luminance tables 51-59, the corresponding data are read and added by adders 64-66 and luminances IR, IG and IB for respective colors R, G and B are calculated.
