The present invention relates to a process for the removal of impurities from methyl chloride during methylchlorosilane synthesis, in which the impurities and the waste gas containing methyl chloride are brought into contact with those polar solvents which have a separation factor alpha INFINITY for the mixture impurity/methyl chloride of at least 1.8, and the impurities are removed from the methyl chloride by a selective waste gas scrubber and/or an extractive distillation.
