Shut-off device which can be introduced into a pipeline

Pipelines which channel combustible material are equipped with shut-off devices, with the result that, in the event of a pipe fracturing, the extent of damage remains low due to the flow of medium being shut off. The shut-off device is composed of a hollow cylinder (8) with retaining device, of a valve cone (13) arranged in the hollow cylinder (8), and of a radially adjustable sealing device (12) which is arranged between pipe wall and hollow cylinder (8). In normal operation, the pressure difference, resulting when the valve cone (13) is open, of the flow medium serves to form holding forces of the retaining device. The increased pressure difference, resulting on closure of the valve cone (13), is utilised to generate the required higher holding force. <IMAGE>
