PURPOSE:To firmly bind cBN and binding material and to improve strength and wear resistance, by incorporating prescribed percentage of Al, etc., to the binding material having cubic boron nitride (cBN) contained in it by prescribed percentage. CONSTITUTION:This sintered compact has a composition consisting of 50-75wt% cBN and the balance binding material. The above binding material contains 20-50wt% Al. Further, one or more kinds among TiN2, Ti(C, N)z, TiCz [where (z) is 0.5-0.85], etc., are contained in the binding material so that (Ti content in the binding material)/(content of transition metal elements M of group IVa, Va and VIa except Ti of the periodic table)=2/3-97/100 is satisfied. Moreover, W (4-40wt%) is contained in the form of the above Ti compound and WC.
