PURPOSE:To accurately perform the movement of a recording member by a simple structure without requiring a complicated power transmission part, by constituting the moving mechanism of the recording part of an X-Y recorder or an X-Y plotter of a linear motor. CONSTITUTION:Recording paper 1 is fed by the pulse motor 3 meshed with the gear provided to a paper feed roller 2. A recording part 5 constitutes the movable part of a linear motor 8 and moves left and right along the guide rod 6 constituting a fixed part corresponding to an input signal and a microswitch 9 detects the reference position of the recording part 5. Because the moving mechanism is constituted of the linear motor, assembling or adjustment can be performed easily and the transmission loss of power is eliminated and the recording part can be moved accurately. As the linear motor, linear DC/linear induction/linear synchronous/linear pulse motors can be used.
