PURPOSE:To accurately detect and measure the abrasion of a rail without an error, by respectively arranging hydraulic cylinders, which move a detecting and measuring truck up and down and applying downward pre-load to the front and rear guide wheels of left and right truck frames at the time of detection and measurement, to the front and rear parts of the left and right truck frames. CONSTITUTION:On the working spot, hydraulic cylinders 21 are operated at first to allow a detecting and measuring truck 10 to fall on a rail and, further, pre-load is downwardly applied to the front and rear parts of left and right truck frames 15a, 15b by the hydraulic cylinders 21 so that the detector of a detecting and measuring unit 11 is held so as to have a definite interval from the upper surface of the rail and, in this state, the detecting and measuring truck 10 is allowed to run on the rail. Wherein, even if distortion of deformation is generated in the rail or difference in level is generated in a joint part, the left and right truck frames 15a, 15b receive action so as to always keep the contact state with the rail by the pre-load due to the hydraulic cylinders 21. Therefore, the detector always holds a definite interval from the reference upper surface of the rail and, therefore, accurate detection and measurement can be performed under a constant relation with respect to the rail.
