PURPOSE:To search an objective file by about 1/10 number of times of reading by providing a directory section in a VTOC area. CONSTITUTION:One element (corresponds to one file) of a directory section 100 is a file name of 21 bytes, and 12 elements can be stored in one physical sector (256 bytes). The directory section 100 stores file names successively in the direction from the lowest address to higher address of a VTOC area, and a file label section 200 stores file labels successively in the direction from the highest address to lower address of the VTOC area. Accordingly, the directory section 100 and the file label section 200 are made to correspond one to one without passing through a pointer, such as, the first element of the directory section 100 corresponds to the highest address of the file label section, and the second element to the next higher address.
