PURPOSE:To eliminate the irregular fatigue of a photosensitive body and to prevent an irregular image from being formed by controlling light irradiation by a light source according to the size of a transfer member. CONSTITUTION:Charges from a transfer device 12 reach a photosensitive layer 24 without being supplied to transfer paper 16 at the gap 42 between the transfer paper 16 and transfer paper 16 when plural sheets of transfer paper 16 are sent while abutting on a photosensitive body 2 and at a part 44 where there is no transfer paper 16 when the size of the transfer paper 16 is small, so the transfer charge of the photosensitive layer 24 increases and a current flowing to the photosensitive body 2 increases. Exposure is so controlled that when there is no transfer paper 16, the exposure by the light source 14 is stopped. Namely, a paper size signal from a paper feed tray or paper feed cassette and a timing signal from the scanner of an optical system are used to stop the exposure by the light source 14 when there is no transfer paper 16 and perform the exposure only when there is transfer paper 16 according to a recording image.
