PURPOSE:To aim at compactification in a display, by installing both first and second insulating substrates, while forming a groove, orthogonal with a filamentary cathode, on a surface of the second insulating subsrate, and separating this filamentary cathode from the second insulating substrate in a partial manner. CONSTITUTION:Two insulating substrates 1 and 6 fitted with filamentary canthodes 2 and filamentary anodes 3 are oppositely combined as slightly separated from each other. These filamentary anodes 3 are parallelly disposed on the insulating substrate 6 as separated from each other. Grooves 7 are installed on the substrate 6 in a position to be opposed to the filamentary cathodes 2. With this groove formed, these filamentary cathodes 2 are supported on the substrate surface, and separated from a bottom part of the groove 7. Therefore, heating efficiency and a build-up characteristic of pulse emission are improved. Accordingly, not only a display part but also its driving circuit can be easily miniaturized.
