<p>PURPOSE:To perform degassing simultaneously with reduction refining of a molten metal and to improve the effect of removing oxygen by heating the molten metal of which the surface is covered by slag contg. a reducing agent in the stage of maintaining a reduced atmosphere in a ladle with a non-consumable electrode and stirring the molten metal by blowing inert gas therein. CONSTITUTION:A flux and a reducing agent are added on the surface of the molten metal 8 in a ladle 1 and thereafter a graphite non-consumable electrode is immersed in slag 9 to effect arc heating; at the same time, vacuum evacuation is started through a piping 3. Inert gas such as gaseous Ar is blown through an inert gas blowing port 1a at the bottom of the ladle 1 to stir the molten metal 8. Degassing is accomplished right after the start of refining and the reaction between the oxide in the molten metal 8 and the slag 9 is vigorously effected, whereby the oxygen and nitrogen in the molten metal 8 are decreased to a prescribed value or below. Al and Ti are charged as necessary into the metal 8 and the heating is continued for a while, then the refining is ended.</p> |
