<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a polycyanoaryl ether excellent in heat resistance, solvent resistance, flame retardancy and mechanical strength, having specified repeating units and showing a specified reduced viscosity. CONSTITUTION:This novel polymer is a polymer having repeating units each of which is represented by formula I and showing a reduced viscosity (etaSP/c) as measured in a 0.2g/dl concentration solution at 60 deg.C>=0.2dl/g. This polymer is obtained by reacting a dihalogenobenzonitrile of formula II (wherein X is a halogen) with an alkali metal salt of resorcinol of formula III (wherein M is an alkali metal) in the presence of a solvent and treating the obtained reaction product with water or an alcohol. This polymer is useful as a material for electrical and electronic devices and instruments or for machine parts.</p> |
