The individual heat-exchanger pipes 2 are provided with a casing 3 made of a material having capillaries. Between the heat exchanger pipes 2, webs 4 are formed from this capillary material. Above the heat exchanger pipes 2, upwardly open fluid distributor channels 6 are arranged which are also embedded in capillary material 7 and in this way are connected to the capillary material 3 which surrounds the heat exchanger pipes 2. The surface of the pipes is completely wetted. The surfaces involved in the transfer of heat are enlarged. Likewise, the surfaces involved in the transfer of material are considerably enlarged. The capillary material 3 ensures uniform wetting of the entire surface of the pipes. <IMAGE>
