PURPOSE:To provide a flame-retardant compsn. which does not emit any harfmul gas and scarcely emits smoke, consisting of a mixture of an ethylene/propylene copolymer and a halogen-free rubber or plastic, a hydrated inorg. compd., a halogen-free carbonization accelerator and a metal oxide. CONSTITUTION:200-400pts.wt. hydrated inorg. compd. [e.g. Mg(OH)2], 5-50pts. wt. halogen-free carbonization accelerator (e.g. tricresyl phosphate) and 5-50pts. wt. metal oxide (e.g. SiO2) having a softening point of 50 deg.C or above are blended with 100pts.wt. mixtured of an ehylene/propylene copolymer and a falogen-free rubber or plastic (e.g. butyl rubber) to obtain a flame-retardant comp. The compsn. is molded into a tape or sheet of 0.5-1mm in thickness. The tape or sheet is wound as the outermost layer around a wire or cable by overlapping it with two turns in a 1/2 lap. |
