发明名称 SEPARATION OF NIOBIUM AND TANTALUM
摘要 PURPOSE:To enable continuous separation of Nb and Ta in high yield and separation efficiency by a heat-treatment at a relatively low temperature, by heat-treating a powdery mixture of Nb iodide and Ta iodide in a stream of an inert gas or an H2-containing gas. CONSTITUTION:A powdery mixture of Nb iodide and Ta iodide is put into a pot 1 for powdery iodide mixture and supplied to a reaction tube with a constant rate feeder 2. An inert gas or an H2-containing gas is supplied to the reaction tube 3 through a gas inlet 4 to form a fluidized layer. Low-valency niobium iodide generated by the liberation of iodine is dropped into a pot 5 for low-valency niobium iodide and the isolated iodine vapor and evaporated tantalum iodide are transferred to a column 6 for the separation of tantalum iodide and iodine, in which only tantalum iodide is dropped in the form of powder into a pot 7 for tantalum iodide. The iodine vapor is quickly condensed in a water-cooled bag filter column 8 and dropped in the form of powder into a pot 9 for iodine. Thus, Nb and Ta can be separated from each other in high yield and separation efficiency in a short time taking advantage of the difference of thermal properties and hydrogen reducing properties of a high-valency niobium iodide and high-valency tantalum iodide.
