PURPOSE:To produce the titled gel having micropores and a small particle diameter, by suspension-polymerizing styrene with divinylbenzene and other monomers in an aqueous medium containing a suspending agent and a suspension stabilizer. CONSTITUTION:Styrene is suspension-polymerized with divinylbenzene and, optionally, other monomers (e.g., chloromethylstyrene) in the presence of a polymerization catalyst (e.g. t-butyl peroxypivalate) in an aqueous medium containing an anionic surfactant (e.g., sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate) as a suspending agent and 0.05-5wt% suspension stabilizer (e.g., PVA of a degree of saponification of about 88% and a degree of polymerization of 500-1,500).
