The wetness switch initiates safety measures or sets off an alarm if there occur even the slightest amounts of water. If there is wetness, a wetness sensor of reversibly swellable material automatically shortens counter to a force between its end points, causing a contact to be actuated by means of a lever. When it dries out, the wetness sensor automatically lengthens again and brings about the opposite switching operation.
