PURPOSE:To obtain a strong optical fiber product to be used even under severe conditions by mixing and kneading ceramic powder with binder. CONSTITUTION:An unsintered ceramic material 2 kept at a so-called green state is obtained by mixing fine ceramic powder with fine lubricant and kneading the mixture with the binder and has a shape such as viscous and soft thick paper. Although the strength and hardness of a tempolarily sintered ceramic material 3 are extremely lower than that of the sintered material, the ceramic material 3 has a shape convenient for dispersing external force at the pulverization of the material 3 by external force. A sintered ceramic material 4 is used for the outermost material. The whole optical fiber 1 is coated with the ceramic material 2, the coated surface is covered with the temporarily sintered material 3 and the whole material is sintered and then inserted into a cylindrical ceramic material. Or, the outer surface of the ceramic material 3 is heated up to the sintering temperature to sinter only the outer surface. |
