A METHOD OF PNEUMATICALLY CONVEYING FINE-GRAINED FUEL TO A GASIFIER

Fine-grain fuel (12) is fed from a supply tank (11), through a closure device (19) and into a conduit (17) which leads to a gasifier (10). Propellent gas is supplied through a pipe (13), and a pressure maintaining gas is supplied to the tank (11) through a conduit (15). Differential pressure between the tank (11) and the gasifier (10) is measured by a device (20) which acts on a controller (24) to determine the rate of flow of pressure maintaining gas through a valve (16). This enables the rate of feed of the fine-grain fuel through the conduit (17) to be maintained at a predetermined value which is linearly dependent upon the differential pressure between the tank (11) and the gasifier (10).
