摘要 PURPOSE:To efficiently, rapidly, and also exactly detect the gap center position of a magnetic head, by utilizing effectively a feature constituted of the shape of the head and bits of various density information, and processing only a bit of limited partial information even when an image is the one including a noise component, such as a dust, a dirt, etc. CONSTITUTION:A VTR head base 2 is mounted on an XY table 8, and a head chip 1 is placed on the base in such a way that the position of the chip can be adjusted freely, and light from a light source 4 is irradiated on the chip 1 through a half mirror 3, and an objective lens 5. Next, a head image, that is a reflected light, is image-picked up on the image pickup plane 6' of an ITV camera 6, however, the positioning and the focusing of the image is performed by a stage 8 and the relative position adjustment of a lens barrel 9. Afterwards, after a video signal image-picked up on the image pickup plane 6' is converted to a digital signal at an A/D conversion part 10, it is quantized, then being stored at a picture memory 11, and a head gap position is detected at an image processing unit 12, and the position of the chip 1 is corrected using a control unit 13. Thus, the various density histogram of an image at the periphery of a gap part is detected, and the center position is defined properly.
