PURPOSE:To make the best use of respective advantages possible, by a method wherein both a host computer and a printer have respectively character generators and the former is used for high speed printing and the latter for low speed printing. CONSTITUTION:The data analysis part 2 to which character code data, the determination of high speed and low speed, etc. are given from a soft data analysis part 1, sends the character code data as they are to a printer 8 via a printer control part 4 for the designation of high speed printing and sends the character code data to an image editing part 3 for the designation of low speed printing. The editing part 3 develops the character code data to a character dot pattern with the character generator therein and sends it to the printer 8 via the printer control part 4. When the character code data are sent, the printer 8 converts them into a character dot pattern to be printed with the character generator therein and when the dot pattern is sent, the printer 8 prints it as it is. Therefore, the good printing at a low speed or the high speed printing inferior in quality may be selected.
