PURPOSE:To monitor the state of a DTE interface of a remote side data MO DEM at one location of a transmission line by returning one interface signal of the remote side data MODEM to a monitor side data MODEM and displaying an interface signal received by the monitor side data MODEM. CONSTITUTION:The remote side data MODEM 2 is provided with a selection circuit 9 selecting and outputting the signal of a DTE interface 22 and a transmission circuit 10 using the selected output as a transmission data and sending it to a subchannel transmission line 102. The monitor side data MODEM 1 is provided with a reception circuit 11 receiving a signal selected by the DTE interface 22 from the subchannel transmission line 102 and a display device 12 displaying the received signal. Thus, the monitor side data MODEM 1 receives the DTE interface signal by the reception circuit 11, displays it on the display device 12 for the monitor.
