PURPOSE:To perform a discrimination of knocking from a signal with a dumped valve noise component, by delaying the outputs of a plurality of sensors individually by respective delay means to add the resulting delayed output by an addition means. CONSTITUTION:Vibration sensors 21 and 22 output signals containing a knocking signal component, intake and emission valve noise components and other mechan ically vibration noise components. A cylinder identifier 5 outputs a signal to identify the cylinder in an explosion stroke. A delay value setting circuit 6 which a delay value set for each cylinder and each delay circuit receives as output signal of the identifier 5 and output a corresponding delay value to delay circuits 31 and 32. The circuits 31 and 32 delays the time based on the delay value received, inputs an output signal thereof into an adder A to add them up and an output thereof is sent to a knocking signal discriminator 4 to discriminate a knocking signal component by amplitude through an internal frequency filter. This can prevent erroneous discrimination caused by a valve noise.
