PURPOSE:To allow an operator to generate a Japanese sentense while the operator is viewing a display, instead of designating a transfer unit everytime, and to improve operability by judging KANJI(Chinese character) displayed on a display screen to be defined data through the operation of a character key following the operation of a conversion designation key. CONSTITUTION:A key decision part 42 detects the depressed state of a keyboard 41. If the state shows reading, data is stored in a read buffer 44, and if it shows a control key, it is controlled as the prescribed control signal. When a conversion key is depressed, a KANA(Japanese syllabary)/KANJI conversion dictionary is accessed according to the contents in the read buffer 44, and a corresponding KANJI is stored in a conversion candidate buffer 45. Simultaneously said KANJI is displayed at a position specified by a defined cursor address register 52. By depressing the conversion key, sequentially candidate KANJI change. When a target KANJI appears, the operator presses other keys, whereby a definition detection part 43 detects the definition and gives the effect to a display control part.
