PURPOSE:To improve printing efficiency by enabling printing to be performed respectively during carrier shuttle action and also film to be driven under interlocking with the movement of the carrier. CONSTITUTION:A film drive pulley 28 and a coaxial gear 35 are fitted to a rack 33 through an idle gear 34, so that the film drive pulley 28 rotates in normal and reverse directions interlocked with the movement of a carriage 22. This causes film 24 to move relatively along the surface of a thermal head 23. Ink is supplied from an ink tank 36 to the film 24 which enters the surface of the thermal head 23. The film 24 which passes through the thermal head 23 and finds its way into the ink tank 36 is cleaned by a cleaning part. Thus the film 24 moves relatively on the thermal head 23 without necessitating a special drive source because it moves to and fro under interlocking with the carriage 22. In addition, ink is supplied to the film 24 before printing when the latter moves relatively. In this way, the printing efficiency can be improved at low cost. |
