The invention relates to a device for remotely locating the path of a given electrical circuit over its whole length, or, in the case of an interruption, up until this interruption (it may thus be found). The device consists of two miniature boxes: - the "selector" which injects a specific signal into the circuit 6 to be followed; - the "probe", a selective receiver, which picks up the fields radiated by this specific signal passing through the circuit to be followed, and converts their intensity and/or gradient into visual and sound indications allowing the user to be guided to the circuit sought. The injection by the selector is performed by means of an impedance modulator 3: - in voltage if the circuit 6 to be followed is open (in this case the battery 5 is connected up by the switch 4); - in current if it is closed (in this case it is solely a modulation of the current coming from the source through the circuit 6). The device according to the invention allows circuits and their interruptions to be located in any type of electrical cabling, and in particular those of automated control systems, telephony and data transmission. <IMAGE>
