PURPOSE:To enable labels to be effectively used up to the last one, by repeating an operation of printing the label being fed, an operation of checking the presence or absence of the label at a releasing part, and an operation of checking the lapse of time from the start of label feeding. CONSTITUTION:A label-releasing part A is provided with a label sensor LS for detecting the presence or absence of a printed label. In issuing the label, label feeding is started on condition that no label is present at the releasing part. Then, an operation C of printing the label being fed, an operation of checking the presence or absence of the label at the releasing part and an operation of checking the lapse of time from the start of label feeding are repeated. When no label is detected within a preset period of time in the operation of checking the lapse of time, the condition is regarded as abnormal, and label feeding is stopped. When the label is detected within the preset period of time, label feeding is stopped after a predetermined lapse of time from the detection, thereby completing a feeding operation for one label.
