PURPOSE:To perform the uniform cooling over whole length of metallic pipe, by a method wherein the displacement of support surface of metallic pipe and the angle of tunnel type cooling medium injection nozzle for cooling are specified in the method for cooling the metallic pipe having differences in level while transferring it in the axial direction. CONSTITUTION:In order to transfer the metallic pipe 1 in the axial direction, it is displaced in the axial direction of pipe by stopping the rotation of the roller 6 supporting the pipe 1 and/or it is carried out by rotation driving of roller 6. For the latter, without the displacement of roller 6 in the axial direction, the position of top end part of pipe 1 is detected with the position detector 18 of pipe 1 and at the same time, the position of pipe 1 in the axial direction is tracked from the transferring speed of pipe 1 and said detection is performed by a arithmetic unit. Based from this value, the position of roller 6 in the radial direction of pipe 1 is changed with the hydraulic mechanism 5 and the generation of change of the axial center of pipe 1 in the radial direction due to the movement of level difference part is prevented. Further, the injection directions of coolant from the headers 10 of tangential injection cooler 4 are simultaneously changed by the equal angle in the plane vertical or almost vertical to the axial direction of pipe 1. |
