PURPOSE:The titled germicide, containing a halogen-substituted phenylmaleimide as an active ingredient and capable of acting pathogenic germs against useful plants without phytotoxicity to plants and exhibiting remarkable controlling effect on blights, particularly on bacterial leaf bright of rice plants. CONSTITUTION:An agricultural and horticultural germicide containing a halogen- substituted phenylmaleimide expressed by the formula (n is 1-5; X is Cl, Br, I or F) as an active ingredient. Specific examples of the compound expressed by the formula include o-chlorophenylmaleimide, 2,3,4,5,6- pentafluorophenylmaleimide, etc. In use, the compound expressed by the formula is directly used or blended with an inert liquid carrier, etc., and, as necessary, a suitable adjuvant is added to use the resultant blend in the form of a solution, granule, aerosol, etc. The amount of the agricultural and horticultural germicide used is preferably within the range of 0.1-100g expressed in terms of the active ingredient per are.
