PURPOSE:To make fixing of a toner image by incorporating plural pieces of laminar ceramic resistors into a heat roller and changing the heating distribution of the heat roller surface for each of the resistors. CONSTITUTION:Al2O3 17 and BaTiO3 heating element 18 broader than (A4) paper are laminated via an alloy layer 16b of Al2O3, MgO and Ni on an arbor roller 16a consisting of iron; furthermore, BaTiO3 21 and Al2O3 32 broader than (A3) paper are laminated via Al2O3 20 to cover the surface with a prescribed org. material layer 23. Electricity is fed to electrodes 27a, 27b via a switch 24a from brushes 24 on both sides of the heating layer 18, and electricity is fed to electrodes 31a, 31b via a switch 28a from brushes 28 on both sides of the heating layer 21. A roller 32 is brought into press contact with a roller 16. The paper size for fixing, etc., is assigned on a control panel and the corresponding resistance layer is selectively heated and therefore, the thermal efficiency is better by direct heating and the electric power consumption is lower.
