PURPOSE:To quicken the read speed, to attain the titled reader inexpensively with small size and to reduce the time of repetitive uses by providing a radiation picture recording medium, a semiconductor laser light source, a scanning optical system, a subscanning mechanism and a photomultiplier. CONSTITUTION:A laser light flux LB generated from a semiconductor laser light source 1 reaches a polarizer 7 via a monochromatic light filter 3, a mirror 4, a beam-shaping optical system 5 and a mirror 6 and is polarized at a prescribed angle. The polarized light flux LB is subjected to main scanning in the direction Z on a conversion panel 11 via a mirror 10 adjusted to be at a constant speed on the scanning line and subjected to subscanning in the direction Y via a moving stand 12. Then the luminescent light generated from the panel 11 is condensed by a light collection transmission body 13 through the scanning, separated into luminescent stimulated light and the luminescent light via a filter 22, converted into an analog electric signal by a photoelectric converter 14 and outputted as a current from the photomultiplier 15. Thus, the read speed is quickened, the reader is formed with small size inexpensively and the repetitive use time (throughput) is reduced.
