PURPOSE:To obtain a negative image high in maximum density in a short processing time, near to neutral black in tone, wide in latitude in developing, high in sensitivity, and low in silver content by incorporating a specified compound in a pressing solution under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:The processing solution to be used for development has a pH or >=12.5, and contains sulfite ions in a concentration of 0.2-0.6mol/l, and the compound represented by formula I in a concentration of 0.01-0.1mol$l. In formula I, each of R1-R4 is H, halogen, or the like, and each may be same or different, and the sum of its carbon number is <=14. As said compound of formula I, hydroquinone derivatives having various kinds of substituents, preferably, the diffusive hydroquinonederivative in an alkaline condition are used. As the compound giving sulfite ions, the compounds used often in the photographic chemistry can be used. |
