PURPOSE:To discriminate by a camera whether a light emission of a stroboscope is necessary or not, and to inhibit automatically a light emission of a stroboscope, when the light emission of the stroboscope is unnecessary as a result of its discrimination, by providing a light emission inhibiting signal generating means on a camera side, and providing a control circuit for inhibiting a light emission of a flash device when a light emission start signal is received in the course of receiving a light emission inhibiting signal. CONSTITUTION:A reflected light from an object to be photographed, which is photodetected by the first photodetector ASPD is brought to photometry by a photometric circuit 1, digitized by an A/D converting circuit 2, and thereafter, whether it is necessary to make a stroboscope emit a light much enough or not with regard to its reflected light, or an overexposure occurs or not rather if a stroboscopic light is irradiated is discriminated by an operating and storing circuit 3. When it is discriminated that a light emission of the stroboscope is unnecessary, a light emission inhibiting signal is outputted to a terminal Tb through a B signal generating circuit 9 extending from immediately before at least an X contact becomes on to immediately after it becomes off, by a command of a timing control circuit 7, and this light emission inhibiting signal is inputted to a control circuit 13. Even if a light emission start signal -X of L is impressed to the other input terminal of an NOR gate G12 from a camera body CA, an output of the NOR gate G12 remains at L level, therefore, a thyristor SCR1 of a trigger circuit 11 is not turned on, and a light emission of a xenon discharge type Xe is inhibited.
