PURPOSE:To surely associate a heat transfer area in each color by printing characters following a character in the 1st color after a main motor pulley is rotated by the difference between a prescribed distance and a distance required for forming an image and reciprocatingly moving an ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION:When a paper for the 1st and subsequent color is reciproicatingly moved, and when a paper for the 2nd and subsequent colors and the in ribbon are reciprocatingly moved, the drive amount of a platen pulley 39 made by the main motor pulley 38 is set more than a distance required for actually forming a color image, and an idle feed is executed before printing characters in the 2nd and subsequent colors starts. Thus the deviation of the heat transfer area in each color due to the deviation of the rotating amount is prevented, thereby obtaining a high quality color image.
