971,341. Latches. H. KOLB, [trading as HANS KOLB KOMM-GES]. Sept. 5, 1961 [Sept. 6, 1960], No. 31929/61. Heading E2A. A door latching mechanism for motor vehicles comprises a latch bolt rotatably mounted on a spindle parallel to the door surface and perpendicular to the door end face surface, a locking plate connected for rotation with the latch bolt, a locking lever mechanism co-operating with the locking plate and an actuating lever releasably engaging the locking lever mechanism, the locking plate being formed as a cam against which the locking lever mechanism engages and the locking lever mechanism being under spring pressure during part of the closure movement of the door. As shown, a spindle 17 in a base-plate 11 for a gear type bolt 12 carries at its other end a cam plate 19 having thereon a camming part 20, a bearing surface 21 and an element 22. A thrust crank 28 is pivotally mounted on a bearing 27 on a lever 23 for engagement with the cam plate 19 against a compression spring 32; the lever 23, pivotally mounted on a bearing 24 on the baseplate 11 normally engages a spring-loaded actuating lever 39 which itself engages a spring- loaded pivoted pawl 46 and a double-armed lever 45 associated with an inside handle. The arrangement is such that as the bolt 12 commences to engage a toothed keeper 14 during a door-closing movement of the door, the cam plate 19 is rotated to compress the spring 32 until a roller 29 carried by the crank 28 reaches the position shown in Fig. 2 whereafter the roller engages the surface 21 and assists the continued rotation of the cam plate 19 and hence the bolt, to fully latched position. |
