PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer having a specific molecular weight and useful as a functional polymer modifier for giving a flame retardant, an oxygen- permeable membrane, a photo-resist and a composite material having high adhesivity, by copolymerizing a silicon-containing styrene derivative with a comonomer. CONSTITUTION:The objective copolymer composed of the polymerization units of formula III and formula IV and having a molecular weight of 1,000-2,000,000 can be produced by copolymerizing a monomer of formula I (R1-R3 are H, 1-10C alkyl, aryl, etc.; n and m are 1 or 2; n+m is 3) (e.g. p- trimethylsilylmethylstyrene) and a monomer of formula II (Y and Z are H, 1-10C hydrocarbon group, halogenated hydrocarbon group, halogen, cyano, hydroxyl, carboxylic acid ester residue, etc.) (e.g. styrene).
