PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of a fixing heat source and to prevent an image from shifting in position and color by setting the distance from a separation claw to a fixing roller to larger than the maximum image size and making the conveyance speed of a sheet lower than the peripheral speed of the fixing roller. CONSTITUTION:The length extending from the separation claw 27 which abuts on a transfer drum 19 to the fixing roller 29 is set longer than the peripheral length of the photosensitive body with which the maximum image can be formed, and the moving speed of an endless belt 28 is set larger than the peripheral speed of the transfer drum 19. The moving speed of a sheet clamped between a roller couple 29 is held lower than the peripheral speed of the drum 19 to prevent end parts of sheets of the maximum size which are conveyed successively from overlapping with each other. Thus, the speeds are set to suppress variations in the speed of a sheet clamped between the roller couple and an image on a sheet is prevented from contacting a nearby member owing to the swelling of the sheet at the clamping position. Thus, a fixation time is shortened to reduce the power consumption, thereby preventing the image from shifting in position and color.
