PURPOSE:To bend a material to be worked with thickness reduction in the periphery of the material restrained by abutting an auxiliary member on the bending periphery of the material and giving the material an compressive load at the start or an intermediary moment of the bending. CONSTITUTION:An end of the upper 1st block 2 is abutted on the periphery of a material to be worked 1 using an auxiliary member formed by combination of the 1st and 2nd blocks 2 and 3 slidably supported by guides 8 through a spring 7 for bending the material 1 fixed by a couple of holders 4, 5, and 6 into a U-shape. A compresive load is given to the material 1 at the start or an intermediary moment of the bending through the 1st block 2 utilizing the resilience of the spring 7 against the 2nd block 3 fixed with bolt 9 of the auxiliary member. Thus, a compressive force F is effectively generated to shift the neutral plane toward the bending outside of the material 1 and to restrain a wall thickness reduction at the periphery of the bent part.
