PURPOSE:To check displacement of gap space of head chips and to improve the characteristic of a VTR by providing a bridge part that connects head chip fitting arms near the position where head chips are mounted. CONSTITUTION:In a bridge part, wall faces of expanding slots of head chip fitting arms 21 and 22 are connected near the position of fitting of head chips 3, 4 to form a rectangular section of thickness t smaller than the thickness T of a head base, and of a specified width w. Thus, when a composite magnetic head is fitted to a rotary drum 5 by a fitting screw, the space d of the expanding slots 7 is not widened even if stress B that widens the expanding slot 7 generated by clamping axial tension is added, as expanding force of the bridge part 12 is large. Further, when suppressing force shown by the arrow mark C is applied to a screwed head chip fitting arm 22 by an adjusting screw 11, the bridge part 12 is easily deformed elestically and height adjustment is performed.
