PURPOSE:To execute the collation close to the collation which is conducted by a human being and abundant in adaptability by stepping at least one side of pointers, repeating the collation and executing the decision when dissidence is detected from the collating result of a collating part. CONSTITUTION:Registers 1a and 1b accumulate two pairs of the symbol strain constituted from plural symbols respectively and pointers 2a and 2b designates a symbol extracting position from the registers 1a and 1b. Reading parts 3a and 3b extract the symbol of the collating contrast from the registers 1a and 1b based upon the output of the corresponding pointers 2a and 2b, and the collation of the symbol extracted by a collating part 4 is executed. When the collating part 4 detects the dissidence of the symbol which is a collating contrast, a control part 5 steps at least one side of the pointers 2a and 2b and extracts and collates the symbol continuously. As such a result, when the collating part 4 detects the coincidence the symbol is the symbol to show the end of the symbol train, the part decides that two pairs of the symbol train are coincident. Thus, the collation close to the collation which is conducted by a human being and abundant in adaptability can be executed.
